I have spent the last three months eating a lot of refined and banquet BBQ. Don’t get me wrong, I love the current gourmet BBQ trend. But you can’t limit yourself to yuppie que or you will find yourself in the yuppie fancy BBQ trance, spending $30 on lunch, and eating smoked monk fruit and bean cassoulet. If the first step to clarity is admitting you have a problem then…my name is Fred and I am a fancy yuppie BBQ addict.
Now what? Remedy the fancy BBQ trance with an emergency trip to Arthur Bryant’s. I went to Arthur Bryant’s (the original)with on old friend and I have been reborn. After the first bite, I was awakened from a fancy BBQ deep zombiesleep and I have found my way back to the hickory pits that made this city famous. We will have a full-blown BBQ debate in a future article, but for today I declare Arthur Bryant’s the most satisfying BBQ in Kansas City. Arthur Bryant’s is good BBQ and has amazing sauce. Arthur Bryant’s is for locals. It has an urban disposition with squirt bottles of gritty sour sauce on uneven dining tables in an unremarkable dining room, all in a historic part of town. It is truly and wonderfully authentic.
Yes, yuppie BBQ in trendy restaurants with tea party etiquette and $30k stainless steel hydro smokers tastes really good. I have no doubt that our new gourmet BBQ friends will survive and play an important role in our BBQ community. However, pit style BBQ with soul and grit still tastes great and can be just as satisfying as the new gourmet newcomers. Arthur Bryant’s makes you feel good, it makes you feel like Kansas City. If you love BBQ and Kansas City, you have to love Arthur Bryant’s.
Bryants on Brooklyn is like an old friend that you can introduce new friends to.
May I just say what a comfort to uncover someone who really understands what they’re talking about online.
You certainly understand how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
A lot more people really need to look at this and understand this side of
the story. It’s surprising you aren’t more popular given that you surely have the gift.
