Webster House is located at 1644 Wyandotte at the corner of 17th and Wyandotte in downtown Kansas City. This location has an interesting geography by neighboring the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and straddling the border of downtown KC with the Crossroads district to the South. Webster House is a beautiful building which is a remodeled school house and has been designated as a historical landmark.
The first floor of Webster House is a boutique shopping space with the restaurant occupying the 2nd floor. While having the same general strategy as Cracker Barrel with retail and dinning under one roof I am pleased to report that this is a refined and well executed mixed used space. This building is beautiful both inside and out with classic Romanesque-style exterior and classic decorating accents within. The interior includes dark wood trimmings and over-sized antique furniture. Webster House has something for the theater crowd, tourists and locals searching for a white table cloth meal. Webster House also hosts private parties, weekly special events, free seminars and holiday celebrations.
Webster house is excellent and incorporates a fine dinning atmosphere with an informal menu. Lunch plates are bursting with flavor and multiple ingredients. Webster House has a great approach by crafting basic dishes like salads and sandwiches into remarkable perfection.
For example, the Hot Turkey sandwich. Staring into the cross cut of this sandwich will reveal the effort and care Webster House takes in their preparation. The ingredients don’t stop and the flavors are layered, each complimenting the next. This isn’t deli style cold cuts but turkey, from an actual bird. Thick, hearty slices of turkey that resembles thanksgiving. The sandwich has a light sweet tint from the cranberry-chipotle chutney smear. Smoked Gouda and bacon with caper aioli give this sandwich deep flavorful soul that is freshened with fresh avocado on a toasted sourdough.
Menu also features gourmet deserts, drinks and Kansas City’s best Sunday brunch from 10am to 2pm.
