Up Dog, great time on the square! Wishing this place was on the square when I was in high school at St. Mary’s high school, Up Dog has a classic diner feel and a not so common menu of dogs to choose from. Located at 114 N Liberty on the Independence square at the corner facing into the square the nostalgia sinks in quickly.
Saddle up to the counter on a stool or at a table window side to enjoy a wide selection of hot dog styles and toppings. The dogs are flash steamed right there at the grill and the bun can be toasted. Once steamed the dog is quickly grilled up on the flat top prior throwing on the bun and toppings added from the style of dog you choose from.
This time I chose the Chorizo Dog, as pictured below has sautéed onions, mozzarella cheese and mustard standard but you can add other goodies to your hearts content. The chorizo was just right with the onions and I was surprised how much I enjoyed the mozzarella cheese in the combination.
Some others styles you might like are the Rio Dog with onions, cream cheese, sliced jalapenos and mustard along with the Missouri Dog which includes the pickle spear, bacon, cheddar cheese and mustard. Another unique pick is the Fajita Dog with an egg shell bun, vienna, green and red bell peppers, onions, sour cream, mustard and queso fresco.
Tots, fries or onion rings for a side and the team is happy to make them as crispy as you like to complement the dog you pick. Tots and fries and come loaded up with chili, cheese and and onions if you so desire.
Forget taco Tuesdays and head over for two dollar mini dogs anyway you want to get them! Let’s move on and talk about desserts for a moment. Up Dog brings the carnival to you with funnel fries and dog paws. Funnel fries have that great fired dough taste in strips like fries and the tasty dog paws are an awesome spin on donut holes.
Up Dog has great for lunch with friends or family and to pick up on your way home!
