Trago is a new family owned and operated tapas style restaurant in Liberty located at 9261 NE 83rd Ter, KCMO 64158.
Trago is Liberty’s only upscale restaurant and is likley to be the prime date and girls night destination. The location is very stylish and includes a hostess, modern lounge waiting area, seasonal outdoor patio with fireplace, and an inviting bar. Staff were funky, friendly and upscale. Trago also includes Sunday brunch.
Tapas are a variety of small savory Spanish dishes, often served as a snack with drinks, or with other tapas as a meal. Diners order a large variety of dishes that are brought to the table in a random order and timing to share with the table. Tapas with a romantic partner is an intimate and interpersonal way to have a delightful meal by sampling a lot of great flavors and drink wine. This style of dining is also great if you’re with a small group that loves to talk about food. Or, if your goal for the night is to drink lots of wine or Sangria and have a few small bites of food along the way to a good buzz.
Small plate dining with a large group is a inconvenient, awkward and inefficient. The larger the group the more ridiculous. Tapas is a very informal but weird way to have a meal with a group of people. Not all tapas plates split well, or the resulting portion is reduced to a single bite. Tapas are not really intended as a meal so guests shouldn’t expect a normal dinning experience. This dining style doesn’t always work well for kids. I love the variety of small plates but you need to make sure to order a lot of items to leave satisfied.
I enjoyed every dish on my visits to Trago and each plate was vibrant, fresh and flavorful. Each item was cooked perfectly and was bursting with authentic Spanish or Mediterranean flavor.
The Spanish Meatballs were my favorite and were heavily seasoned and perfectly balanced. Admittedly, I had two meatballs after I shared some of the portion with table mates. The brief moment these meatballs were in my life I recall them as spectacular.
The Ahi Tuna was also memorable because it was cooked perfectly rare and had a great flavor that was enhanced by the bed of mango and pineapple salsa.
Trago is an excellent restaurant and a great place to navigate the dining obstacle course known as tapas small plate dining.

Thank you Fred for your review. Come the new year, we will be presenting our complete menu which will include full entree portion items including a traditional Spanish rice dish called paella. For those who appreciate wine, we proudly present a large selection that are delicious and at every price point. Having worked as a bartender in the Northland for the past several years before adventuring out as chef and owner, I have come to realize we have some whiskey drinkers up here. I have made it my personal mission to have a vast selection of bourbons and whiskeys. So if that peaks your interest come check it out. I want Northlanders to have the city experience without having to necessarily always venture there. My goal is to present an evening that is culturally vibrant, classy, and unpretentious. I’d love to give you a personal history of some of the dishes the next time you are in so please ask for me. Again, thank you for your review. Salud!!
