KCFoodGuys.com wants to celebrate the strange and unique food destinations in Kansas City in a new article series “KC Dives”. These aren’t destinations for date night. However, these are places that serve good food and are worth your visit when your feeling adventurous.
Snac & Go is located at 2424 NW Vivion Road in Riverside MO and can be described as a liquor store, head shop and burger shack. You will hesitate as you pull up to this establishment and balk as you enter the front door but curious diners will be pleased as you exit.
Noteworthy was the pride of the employees. Nobody told Snac & Go employees they weren’t on track to earn a Michelin Star. Employees were eager to please and took pride in preparing guests meals. As they plated my sandwich and piled the fires to the ceiling I could see they were showing off and dared me not to like the meal.
Also revealing was that all the employees were eating the food. The employee at store register had ordered a hamburger for his lunch. Another employee was begging the fry cook for a cup of soup that had just been prepared. Fellow dinners included a colorful cast of salty locals.
Snac & Go has a small menu featuring homemade style hamburgers, tenderloins, Gyro’s, Philly Cheese Steak, french fries, and more. All made from scratch in house. I enjoyed the tenderloin that had a delightful light crispy crust and served on a traditional bun with lettuce, onion and pickle bed. My lunch mate ordered the double cheese burger that was massive. Both sandwiches were filling and crave-able. French fries were excellent and made fresh.
Also unique was they offered both Coke and Pepsi fountain drinks. This is a rare option in Kansas City restaurants that typically swear allegiance to one of the soda pop gods and oddly turn their back on the fans of the opposing soda.
First time diners should know to place your order at the food counter and then pay for your meal at the convenience store checkout. Snac & Go menu is available weekdays from 10am-8pm and features cheap regular daily specials.
