Mio Italian Pizzeria
4800 W 135th Street #250 Leawood, KS 66209
Today I decided to have lunch at a local pizzeria called Mio’s. I’ve been there a few times and have enjoyed a number of items but today I was back for a specific dish, the Lasagne al Forno, hoping it would be as good as the two I’ve had previously.
Mio’s is tucked away in Parkway Plaza, which has been slow to develop and fill in, but Mio’s has been there for a while and I’m hopeful that it will be there for a long time to come. Mio’s is nicely decorated and has a number of seating options; bar, booths, and high-top and sit-down tables. In addition to Mio an Italian Pizzeria in Parkway Plaza Mio’s also has a “sister” establishment Mio an Italian Trattoria, which is only open in the evenings serving traditional Italian cuisine. According to Italian custom a trattoria is less formal than a “ristorante” with an emphasis on steady clientele rather than a haute cuisine. See Wikipedia for more. I hope to visit to Mio’s Trattoria soon.
My wife and I decided to split a margherita pizza and the lasagna. Both dishes looked fabulous. The pizza at Mio’s was good but I think I need to try a few more before I judge them. We ordered our margherita today with a little oil added at the waiter’s suggestion but it was a little more oily than I would’ve liked.
The much anticipated lasagna on the other hand delivered the goods once again. Mio’s lasagna has a great mixture of meats and cheeses along with perfectly cooked lasagna noodles. It’s honestly the best lasagna I’ve had since I was in Rome over a decade ago. I don’t usually order lasagna at a restaurant so I’m sure there are some good ones around town; please let me know in the comments below.
The first time I was at Mio’s I asked the waiter what was good and without blinking an eye he said “have the lasagna” I am so glad I went with the suggestion which isn’t always the case. For some reason I’ve always found restaurant lasagna to be lacking, even at Italian restaurants so I was a bit skeptical, but it has never been lacking at Mio’s. It was so good today in fact that I came away disappointed that I only got to eat half dish plus two bites that my wife couldn’t finish. Yes, I was counting. Next time there will be no splitting meals.
