Ted’s Cafe Escondido
7001 W 135th Street in Overland Park
Ted’s Cafe Escondido is one of the new Mexican food options in Johnson County. Ted’s is a Mexican chain that started in Oklahoma with multiple locations with their newest location in at 7001 W 135th Street in Overland Park.
Ted’s has been open for a few months now and it still takes a bit of a wait to get seated. Although you might try your luck in the bar area to get seated right away, but kids can only sit at tables in the lower section.
We arrived at Ted’s on a weeknight around 7 and there was still a 30 minute wait. We provided our name when they gave us a receipt with our name, the time we arrived, and how long they expected the wait to be for us. I think this is an excellent process so there is no questioning of when you put your name in or what you were told.
I took a look at the bar area and was lucky enough to find a table for four so we got seated right away. The waitress was prompt and introduce herself and asked if we had been to Ted’s before and to let us know that she was training another server to help us as well. Then came all the complimentary items. Not just chips & salsa. Everyone gets their own salsa, everyone gets their own cheese dip and if chips aren’t enough for you, you they will also bring hot fresh tortillas as well. With four people your table is filled with grub and you haven’t even order drinks yet.
There are multiple options for the Niños (kids) menu you have lots of options. Tacos, Enchiladas, Mini Quesadilla, Nachos, Burrito, Corn Dog, and Chicken Fingers with fries. Even our 2 little food monsters were able to find something to fulfill their picky appetites.
We have been a few times now and have tried a number of items; the Pollo Ranchero, the Chimichanga, Fajitas, and the Mexican Flag Enchilada Sampler. I would definitely order the Pollo Ranchero and the Mexican Flag sampler again. The Chimichanga was okay but nothing special and fajitas weren’t the piping hot fajitas we are use to so they were a bit of a let down. But overall the meal was good and reasonably priced considering all the free extra’s you get and we’ve been back a few times now. I must say that I enjoy the free cheese dip for my chips. Its not high end cheese by any means but I do like cheese with my chips so for me thats a nice bonus that I’ve not seen elsewhere. If you know of a place with complimentary cheese please let me know in the comments below.
After the meal comes the dessert, Free dessert. Yes Ted’s serves complimentary churros to everyone at the table with honey. The kids love it and even if you don’t enjoy your meal you’ll leave Ted’s with a smile on your face after the churros.
