Set up in Lee’s Summit Missouri, Bleu Burger is one of the only local spots that I’ve found with stuffed burgers show cased on the menu. On my last visit we sample an app, sides and two great burgers. The app we noshed was the spinach and artichoke dip. Served with deep fried pita triangles the creamy dip with healthy portions of spinach and both chunky and chopped artichoke hearts is a great flavor to not pass up.
My wife tried the All American burger and the Western Trail is what I went for on this visit. For those of you that might not be familiar with the stuffed burger let me take you to back to my visits to Minneapolis.
Matt’s Bar and Grill as well as the 5-8 Club are the two originals of the Jucy Lucy style of cheeseburger. Often these melty, gooey cheeseburger are built one of two ways; first you make two thin patties and place the cheese between them, the second is done by building a crater with your thumb in the middle of a larger patty, stuff the cheese in and cover up before grilling.
So let’s start with the All American burger. Served up with ketchup, mustard, yellow American cheese and pickles on the inside. The outside is another slice of American cheese and lettuce on an egg bun. The shoe string fries round out the true American classic burger.
Moving to the Western Trail burger, stuffed inside is bacon, red onion, jalapenos and cheddar cheese. The outside has lettuce, fried onion straws, more cheddar cheese and barbeque sauce. The bun is a ‘works’ bun with sesame and onion. I opted for the sweet potato tots with some ranch for a different take. The sweeter tots were a good complement to the saucy, cheesy goodness of the burger.
To finish this off we also got an extra side, the brussel sprouts. Even if you have not been a fan of these little cabbages I’m going to challenge you to at least try them when you come visit. They are sautéed with garlic and butter, add a little salt and pepper to round them off.
Although on this visit there wasn’t a sampling of mac and cheese I can’t not talk about this dish. Along with great salads, flatbreads and a super Pulled Pork Sandwich one should not pass up on the mac and cheese. You can put whatever you want in with the cheese delight, I opted for bacon of course.
All in all Bleu Burger is a solid American Bar and Grill and worth the drive off the highway on your way back from the lake, Powell Gardens or a dinner with friends and family.
