KCFoodGuys Bracket Round 2 Results
Jack Stack BBQ (1) vs Back Porch BBQ (8): Back Porch was good enough to take out Rosedale, but they didn’t match up well against the 1 seed Jack Stack. But if your out on 40 Highway just down from Stadium Drive give them a try. Jack Stack advances.
Big T’s (5) vs Smokin Guns (4): Big T’s had a solid showing in the first round against Bates City but now in round two they are up against Smokin Gun’s in North KC. Smokin Guns took them with their Burnt Ends and sides. Smokin Gun’s advances.
Hawg Jaw (11) vs Char Bar (3): Hawg Jaw took round one with the Italian Hawg sandwich and got matched up against Char Bar’s Burnt Heaven sandwich. Lets just say the only winner in this sandwich matchup was me, both are outstanding. Next came the meats and Char Bar was winner in both the brisket and rib category. Char Bar advances but we look forward to seeing what Hawg Jaw can do in next years bracket.
Roscoe’s BBQ (7) vs Plowboys (2): Plowboys wins this match up from start to finish. Plowboys Blue Springs location is serving competition quality BBQ with all the fixins. Excellent burnt ends that will liquefy in your mouth without the need for a single chew. Truly spectacular product at Plowboys with great brisket and puled pork sandwich and ribs.
Joe’s Kansas City (1) vs BBQ Shack (9): We kind of feel sorry for anyone who gets paired against a 1 seed. It’s almost not fair. We love that we can get wings with our BBQ and dig any place that serves fried pickles but Joe’s KC takes them in all categories. Joe’s advances.
Smokebox (5) vs Bare Bones Smokin (13): Smokebox came ready to play and had excellent brisket and sauce. Bare Bones competed well and edged them out with their ribs, beans, and season fries. This one went down to the wire and Bare Bones pulled out a buzzer beater. Bare Bones advances. How far can this cinderella go?
RJs Bob-Be-Que (6) vs Little Pig (14): This was an amazing match-up and probably one that could be won by either place on any given day. Both RJ & Little Pig have excellent BBQ it was hard to judge a winner. But since we go on overall satisfaction when picking our winners RJs noses out Little Pig by a bowl of cheesy corn. RJ’s advance.
Smokey’s on the Blvd (7) vs Gates (2): Smokey’s is an up and coming BBQ spot near 143rd & Metcalf with a drive thru. Something that’s not usually found at your traditional BBQ joint (but hey its south Johnson County). Smokey’s does the drive thru right, they’re quick but they don’t hurry. They had a good showing and we loved the BBQ egg rolls, one of the best unique sides so far in the tournament. Then comes the legendary Gates with their overly friend service and the incredible mixed plate. Smokey’s had a chance but in the end Gates wins out in a matchup that was closer than most would expect. Gates advances.
Q39 (1) vs Smokin Joe’s (9): We know Smokin Joe’s has a faithful following but it’s really hard to compete with the defending KCFoodGuys champ. Q39 in a sweep, Q39 advances.
Tender Butts & Smoking Thighs(13) vs Woodyard(12): Woodyard is unique and is an acquired taste for some. Woodyard had the home court advantage when it comes to smoking but losses in a close contest with Smoking Butts & Tender Thighs. Butts/Thighs cinderella story continues as they advance to the sweet 16 with their ribs and their home cooking style of barbecue. Butts & Thighs advance.
BBs Lawnside (6) vs Danny Edwards (3): BBs first round match up didn’t really prepare them for the 2nd round. A 6 vs 3 seeding might make you think this could go either way, but after sitting down for lunch Danny Edwards was the clear winner and advances.
Winslow’s (7) vs Arthur Bryants (2): Arthur Bryant’s is where KC BBQ all started and in this contest Arthur marches on. Amazing meat at AB. Arthur Bryant’s advances.
LCs (1) vs A Little BBQ Joint (9): We were glad to find A Little BBQ joint in the first round, its good stuff but LCs remains a notch above when it comes to the BBQ. LCs Advances.
Blind Box BBQ (5) vs Brobecks (4): Blind Box is new to the BBQ game and probably got seeded a little high for a new comer which made their first round match-up a bit easier than for other newcomers. While they advanced to the 2nd round, Brobecks took them to task in all categories. More Ham Salad please. Brobecks advances.
Wabash (6) vs Burnt Ends (3): Old School vs New School respectively. Wabash made a bit of a showing in last years bracket and nearly took out Gates. This year Burnt Ends is their 2nd round match up and they just didn’t messure up. Burnt Ends was solid and while Wabash kept trying to make a run to get the lead in the meats Burnts was able to keep them from advance. We also need to complement Burnt Ends on an amazing sauce. Bold & Tasty is the name and thats all you need to know. Its bold and tasty. Futuristic Burnt Ends advances.
Porky’s Blazin(10) vs S.L.A.P.’s(2): Porky’s is the rightful pride of Grain Valley with excellent meats and sauce (but no fries and they only have burnt ends on Sunday). SLAP’s is rising power in Kansas City BBQ and the crew offers great queue at their restaurant and competes in regional barbecue contests. SLAP’s is fresh, competition quality que served in a humble KCK shack. SLAP’s has excellent ribs that are perfectly cooked to slide off the bone, without leaving any residual soft tissue. They have perfected the rib. SLAP’s also features two delicious mop sauces (one sweet, and one spicy) and has great brisket, burnt ends and great sides. S.L.A.P.s advances.
People’s Choice Bracket Round 2 Results
The results are in and the people have spoken with almost 1400 voters. It appears we have a few cinderella’s making their way through the bracket. May the best BBQ win. We did not require folks to vote on every match-up so there will be some differences in total votes for each head to head matchup. Good Luck to those advancing and remember everyone starts back at zero.

Your blurb says BBs lost but the votes and the bracket show otherwise. Which is correct?
There are two brackets. Ours and the People’s Choice bracket. They lost in our bracket but the people voted them to advance.
